THE NAMESAKE is the story of the Ganguli family whose move from Calcutta to New York evokes a lifelong balancing act to meld to a new world without forgetting the old. Though parents Ashoke and Ashima (Irfan Khan, Tabu) long for the family and culture that enveloped them in India, they take great
pride in the opportunities their sacrifices have afforded their children. Paradoxically, their son Gogol (Kal Penn) is torn between finding his own unique identity without losing his heritage. Even Gogol's name represents the family's journey into the unknown.

What a shit movie. It completely rips off other movies like "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner." But with a poor man's actor Kal Penn. Who is soooo gay, like everyone was in Superman Returns - Except for Frank Langella. Ugh! When will these Asians or Indians Dot heads have an original thought in their caste system.
See better movies don't waste your time with this garbage. Type in Indian Thriller to see a much better indian movie. Although, no Indian movies are original. They steal EVERYTHING!

The Namesake is the only decent film Kal Penn has every done everything else he's been in has been complete and utter garbage
Van Wilder, Harrold and Kumar, A lot like love, Epic Movie, Superman Returns in which he only had like one line in the whole movie) ALL OF IT COMPLETE TRASH Now he's playing a boring predictable Indian doctor (An Indian doctor how cliche is that?) on House
I don't hate Kal Penn I just hate almost everything he's done.

Those movies were very funny and equally as good if you like comedy. Obviously you don't. Maybe they had bad ideas, but they were hilarious. This movie was good though. You don't have to put down other movies he's done. I bet you haven't even seen all of them if any at all.

I do like comedy, films like Office Space, Get Smart, and Meet the parents, those are all funny movies. Harold and kumar and van wilder were lame. (the first harold and kumar had a few moments but that's it)
I've seen all his films and this is the only one that is any good. I was looking forward to his role in Superman Returns only to find out he had one damn line in the whole movie (the movie flopped anyway) It's an insult he even accepted that role. Kal Penn does not do good films.
