Video Description:
Illinois State Legislator Monique Davis launched an attack on atheism, calling it "dangerous for our children". She was confronting well-known atheist Rob Sherman Wednesday afternoon 2 April 2008 in the General Assembly as Sherman testified before the House State Government Administration regarding Gov. Rod Blagojevich's oddly misdirected $1 million grant intended for Pilgrim Baptist Church. Sherman told reporters afterwards he "felt like Rosa Parks".

chunkylimey She must have forgot she wasn't in church. Black southern Baptist churches and the popularity of Christianity, gospel singing (and what have you) within many Black communities do root from the days of slavery. It is odd that within so few generations those belief systems are so firmly implanted. It isn't a black white thing but religion is big within the black community.

It's about dogma enslaving you to the demands of a hierarchy that claims to be more enlightened than you, when judging by the Catholic Church and most Baptists churches what they are apparently better at is child abuse and corruption. Christianity is just a means of keeping people enslaved through fear.

Agreed! This poor deluded woman has been so indoctrinated to believe these myths that she lacked enough sanity to speak rationally even within a public legislature. (She'd get away with it at Obama's church) I think a great part of why religion has continued to propel itself over the centuries,
having faith has been a kind of mass hallutionation. Up till now has gone mostly unchallenged.

Religious belief is like 8 track tapes (analogy here) although they served their purpose, there's really no need for them anymore because we have something better....mp3 players. For some reason religion was/is a necessary part of human evolution as was the 8 track tape for recorded music. There probably won't be much left of the major religions by the end of the 21st century as humanity sheds this problem. Maybe we could stop this at its roots by inoculating children, if only it were that easy.
