I dunno jimmy, I checked out a vintage vid of the Shadows (search The Shadows - Apache) and they look much cooler, especially the bass player with the leather jacket and cigarette in the headstock! I still think it's the Del-Tones for the win lol.

In my diseased mind it was quite an unintentionally surreal performance. The disembodied guitar intro, the fixed expressions, the gentle rocking to and fro of the Del Tones (looking all the while like Kraftwerk performing on a ship in rough seas), the energetic surf music pervading, the tilted camera angles, and the one female dancing like mad while everyone else barely dances at all. Fantastic! Great stuff!

Dick Dale is probably in my opinion one of the greats but is not as well known as he should be and to this whole Guitar Hero/Rockband crap 99.9 percent of my friends only know those songs like Sweet Child O Mine Misirlou Rock This Town from THAT DAMN GAME i was listening to shit like this for my whole life FUCK GUITAR HERO

He had the Chuck Berry trouble with underaged fan/girl friend. It imperiled his success pretty much like Berry. If you think on it, Berry was belatedly refound, with a lot of effort from Keith Richards. I'm not talking about his records, but on stage with live performances. You have to realize that concert promoters like record companies are, well, like Dick Cheney. Somehow they belive it's good to get a reputation, but when that reputation becomes a felony with jail time, well, they cool off.

Dale is left-handed and initially had to play a right-handed model. But he did so without restringing the guitar, leading him to play the guitar upside-down. Even after he got a left-handed guitar, Dale continued to use his reverse stringing.

because it's a .60 gauge low E string. Dick Dale uses extremely heavy strings. to put in perspective, the low B string on a 7 string guitar is a .58 normally. If you want to play this style and get a dick dale sound, put ridiculously heavy strings on your guitar and you'll need really really heavy guitar picks too. 2mm minimum. you will shred the picks to nubs so buy a lot of them. also tighten up your tuners to maximum (heavy strings create a lot more pressure). a strat wouldn't hurt too
