i disagree with your sell outs being ppl who wants to learn. I think most are seen by black street youth as nerdy if anything, not being a traitor.I think black ppl in mixed relationships are seen as sell outs because most often they tend not to identify with other blacks or issues that affect blackppl which perhaps is seen as creating a further divide.

I think that once we "accept" the idea that being "black" means that I must be "down for the struggle" then we have lost. As long as there is racism then there will be a struggle but, what if there was no racism, would there still be a need to be "down for the struggle"? Then by default we would all be sell-outs if we decided to speak whatever language we speak properly? I agree with this gentleman...we have allowed the idea of struggling to define what is "black". to the point....cont.

...cont. ...to the point where it is "black" to be ignorant of certain facts and information and to drink and smoke weed and wear certain clothing. ...and by default, we have also defined the opposite of this idea to be "white". Making it ok to advance legally by the standard operating procedure of "the system" only if you are "white". So if you are not "white" and you follow this standard operating procedure" then you are "acting white". There is something wrong with this logic.

the first thing they will say is "you are acting white". Try correcting broken english and you will probably get a lecture about the advantages of knowing ebonics. Depending on how many you are trying to teach or share info with...you will receive the other labels you spoke of...uncle tom, sell out, etc.. Maybe you are forming a new nation...ok...then what you say makes sense. However if you trying to advance in the society set up by "whites" then none of this applies.

I disagree. In what way are people in mixed relationships a sell out?! Every relationship I have had hasn't been with a black person and I'm black. But I'll tell you this I know more about my culture and history than most black people i know or come into contact with. I wouldn't say that I act white either! I think sharing cultures is the best thing we can do on this planet to learn from each other. I have friends from so many different cultures (inc my own) and it'll always be that way...

Also, i think it's sad how the black community is portrayed. But it's not just blacks it's asians to a certain extent as well. I live in London and I have noticed more and more black people working in the city making something of themselves which is how it should be. They're not selling out they're just trying to achieve something and they should do it for themselves anyway! But you do still get the poor black cleaner...or the stupid college drop out, knife crime, gangs. It's just got to stop.

I think it's stupid to say someone "acts" like another race is a sellout. That would fall into the catogory of sterotypes. That's also grouping men and women into a group of race. Why not just judge people on their individual bahavior? What about the non african american people that grew up in poor ghetto areas? We should all have the choice to act like who we are. Saying all white people act a certain way, or black people is stupid.

There is no such thing as "acting white", or "acting black". YOU CANNOT ACT LIKE A COLOR. You can, however, act in ways that are socially acceptable and ways that aren't. People who call you a sell out for getting an education are stupid, they like being stupid, they enjoy being ignorant and they deserve to be victims of racism for acting like that. They don't realize that if you get an education, you can get money, which is green, the only color that matters.
