Alongside The Beatles, The Searchers formed in the late 1950s, performing in and around their hometown of Liverpool, England. The Searchers achieved success in the 1960s with numerous hits including 'Needles And Pins' and 'Love Potion Number 9.' Rumours have suggested they influenced the 12-string jangle guitar sound of The Byrds.
Singer Mike Pender played 12-string and 6-string rythm guitar for The Searchers until he left the band to form a lineup of his own. His new band is known as Mike Pender's Searchers, showcasing Pender's new solo material and all the essential hits and fan favourites from his decades in The Searcher

he was their vocalist on their first 2 hits only but also appeared on the next few before he left in 1964. He did perform a handful of times as a guest with Mike Penders Searchers between 1992-95. However in 1996 he was sent to prison for threatening someone with an air pistol and his health went down hill from then on until he passed away in 2003

Mike lost it somewhere - this lot aren't a patch on the 'real' Searchers that he screwed and walked away from. They do a magnificent show that has you in the aisles.

Nothing bad about Mike - he is a great singer and a great musician but the REAL Searchers are far more better. They also have new songs that are great, while Mike plays old hits to make his living. It
´s a tragedy to see him perform with this mediocre musicians. Since he left the real Searchers he has tried to use their name twice and both times he lost. He is an ex to me. The Searchers is a great band while Mike´s band is something that is playing in dark bars and such stuff.

Sorry Mike is no longer with the band since 20 years and yes the REAL Searchers sound far much better than MP - sorry cause he used to be a great musician and now he is a tragedy who makes his living from playing old hits while the REAL Searchers are mixing the old with the new and - I must say - in a very successful way

The group is not the same withou penders, and they have no where near the catalog of the beatles--why even compare, tho the vocals of the searchers are great.

Mike Penders is the john lennon of the searchers. Sure mcnally and allen are great,but this guy is the main person of that group. I recently just started listening and watching all the searchers video's,this is my take and I'm staying with it.

The Byrds jangle guitar sound was not influenced by The Searchers. Do some research and you'll find that they got that sound from George Harrison after seeing him play a 12 string Rickenbacher in A Hard Day's Night.

I agree, George Harrison had that wonderull 12-string Rickenbacker guitar with this awful sound and that made up for a lot of the sound of the Beatles in that time around "A hard days night". Listen too to: "You can't do that" or "Can't buy me love", "I should have known better". I like playing this Rickenbacker myself! But on the other hand, everybody was struck by the opening riff of "Needles and Pins" and many musicians afterwards thought this to be "the sound" of a 12-string guitar.

Mike Pender was the VOICE of the searchers for about 40 years, having seen both groups live many times during the past 20 odd years, I prefer Mike penders searchers, Spencer James sings like a throtled chicken, he has to force his voice. Mike Pender is a natural, my partner prefers Spencer, but them she has not been a searchers fan for as long as I.

Well, who was the ACTUAL lead singer on 'Needles & Pins' 'Love Potion #9' 'When You Walk In The Room' 'Sweets For My Sweets' etc......those Seachers hits? Was MP the lead singer, or was SJ the lead, or was someone else. I just want to know so if I decide which current Seachers lineup has the actual singer of those original Searcher's hits. Thanx.

I saw Mike Pender the other day with Vanity Fare backing him in a 60s show and he was still pretty damn good and very fit comsidering he's well over 60 years old!
Mike Pender and Tony Jackson are the voices of those fab songs like Needles and Pins, Sweets, Sugar etc and much preferable to Spencer's voice for Searchers songs!

As much as I like Mike Pender he never was a good lead singer for the original Searchers and the point has been proved with his replacement Spencer James. I still enjoy Mike Penders vocals though and he is a part of the original Searchers history. The original Searchers still rule!!!
