well I have limited knowledge of this, so don't quote me lol but i am pretty sure it was african (or roman) culture, going back hundreds of years, I remember seeing a documentary about how the number of cattle, how "fat" you were etc... (as stephaniep07 said) showed that you were considered wealthy.

INXS is probably the most underrated band EVER. It's pathetic. Elegantly Wasted, Not Enough Time, a bunch of songs should be reaching the 5 million views.

They were extremly popular at one point, except - After Michael died, I think they went downhill and alot of people I guess forgot about them.
Michael made INXS, he was different from many other singers. I will tell you one thing, if Michael was still alive, these views would be way, way, way higher than they are right now.

Sorry but Michael WAS INXS. However talented the rest of the band were they became nothing more than his backing musicians because Michael had stuch striking stage presence that everyone else just faded to grey. That is why they have never found anyone to replace them. They would have to call themselves something else because you just can't replace someone like Michael and still call yourself by the same name. It hasn't worked.

Correction to everyone, the combination of Hutchence and Andy Farriss was the winning formula of INXS. I still enjoy their current work though.
