Final Fantasy VII - 8:39 @ Final Save (NOT World Record)

There are a couple of videos showing a low time at the bottom of the Northern Crater, but I have the lowest one beat with almost an hour, so I thought I'd upload it. Take note that this is an old speed run where I used really outdated strategies, so this is nowehere near the world record. I'm in the process of beating this, with a goal of beating the game in less than 8 hours. You can watch my progress here:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D305DAD36259178E The current world record is 7:26:37 at the final save on the bottom of the crater, held by the Ultimania guys. However, this record was set with Japanese version of the game, which is faster because of their use of symbols isntead of letter
. These symbols make text skipping quicker and you gain a total of 8 minutes overall throughout the game, so this time equals 7:34:37 in the North American version. It should also be mentioned that they most likely exploited certain glitches, so it cannot be compared to a glitch free run. In additi
on to this, a guy named Andrew Farrington (aka Farringa) has beaten the PC version in 7 hours and 41 minutes. That's the entire game and not just his time at the final save. However, the PC version is a lot faster than the PS version, so his time cannot be compared to the PS world record. He didn't

think this is possible... no, wait, I'm not even gonna bother. Some people didn't even believe the game could be beaten in 13 hours, so I'm bound to get some stupid cheater accusations on this one. I like to laugh at ignorance, so just bring it on!

Well,could not be a world record as you say,but definetly is a kickass work.Plus is on a ps and not japanese,so the result is magnificent anyway.But you're tryng to beat it in a more less time right?Keep it up!^-^

Speed runs are made for this: Beating the game really fast, NOT enjoy or understand it! This is a prerequisite to a speed run.
Anyway Garland Gj, and although you claim its not WR i'd like to see a better time video as a response to that one ;).

I know a guy who's got 7:59 at the final save, but I'm not sure he still has the file. That's not the world record, but it's the best known time with the PAL version. I'l ask him if he can do a video :)

Everyone has interests.And they are different.If one loves FF,i don't see anything bad in playng as he wishes,even doing Speedruns,wich believe me are very hard to do in FF.And he must be not sick,on the contraire,he,in this case Garland,has superior knowledge of this game.He sure finished it lots of time,and he is getting fun on doing this Speedrun.That's all dude!!!:)

It's his game, he can do whatever he likes with it. He's not a "sick" person for attempting something like this, in fact you'd have to really enjoy the game to put forth so much time and effort to complete a run like this.

If it's so impossible, then why don't you watch the video and read the commentary. Even without horrendous amounts of luck manipulation (read: reloading from a save) in order to avoid random battles and wind the timer down, FFVII is a very easy game to finish in under 10 hours if you know how.
