Luciano Pavarotti singing from a concert in January 1980 with the NY Philharmonic cond. by Zubin Mehta. Compare this performance with other (later) dates; Pavarotti here is clearly still in absolute total command. This was part of the "Live from Lincoln Center" 30th anniversary special.

omg, i was there to see my fiance perform in chorus in that very same room at lincoln center. i remember sitting in the front row right in the middle, such a small room, more long than wide, fits like 200 in it, not much, but the sound in there, the acoustics, are beautiful, perfect for singing in.
