Wow Ivan! You put yourself into the song, and look pretty comfortable on the stage. Very, very nice! Let's hear more from you! Wow again!

Man, the Nevilles ARE the rockinest artists that many have never heard of, but thankfully they'll keep New Orleans' "shave and a haircut boom boom" riff alive forever! Hail to the Nevilles and da riddum!

This song is not about having a funky good time, it's about the fucking war in Vietnam. Don't get me wrong, these guys are great musicians, but evidently they TOTALLY do not get what this song is supposed to be about.

It's about a LOT more than that BlueONWhite, just as relevant today. Listen to the words again.

You are right. Sorry... I'm rather touchy about the "Vietnam experience." Evidently I have trouble seeing this song anywhere else except in its original context. Clearly, it does apply today, too.

I think Ivan intended it to be a protest song about the way that many of the poor people of New Orleans have been treated by the government post-Katrina. Check out the line about "Whatcha gonna do with the money?"
When these cats ... ( 11 months ago by SneakinSal)
When these cats went into the studio and recorded this tune, it was in Austin, where they had evacuated after Katrina ~ so yes, it has some very definite added relevance re: the failed state - that failed in Vietnam, Iraq & New Orleans ~ for more, (or the facts on why) , see Naomi Klein's recently released book, "The Shock Doctrine~ The Rise of Disaster Capitalism"...... Fortunate Son was a really appropriate musical response to Katrina... Sneakin' Sal
