I can't get enough of this. And as is the case with most of Gould's music, it's not just the sound. It's also that image of HOW Gould is playing that makes this whole piece absolutely mesmerizing.

This music even after centuries of innovation presents an elemental abstract uplift.
Why?
Bach I feel has a tendancy to hook the future with patterns of floating symmetrical notes.
Gould we miss you.
Love to you all who have written such positive appriasal.

I would be mortified beyond belief if anyone were to see me sobbing like a baby at the beauty of this cantata. Once again, Deldea has posted some of the most moving Gould videos I have ever seen. I am slowly coming to the realization that possibly some of the most beautiful music written has been JSB's cantatas and it's funny because I am not really a fan of vocal music. Possibly because I wasn't really exposed to it regrettably. I especially like dillionira's comment about the child alone.

It's a tragedy that Gould didn't live long enough to do much conducting...this video (and his recording of the Siegfried Idyll) indicates he would have been a very fine conductor.

Thank you so much for posting - you know, 5 years ago, we'd kill for DVD's available like this - the few you'd find would have all this commentary - 30 seconds of the piece then they start talking. Idiots! Don't they know we'd pay just to LISTEN to the damn piece in its entirety??? So here we have it - at least this movement, without commercial interuption. Thank you for posting!!! This has always been one of my favorites...

p.s. when I spoke of commentary on DVD's I was speaking of Gould DVDs. I'm aware there were complete Cantata DVDs out there. But this one? With Japanese subtitles? Probably not - anyway - this is just awesome - Ha! look at Mr. Gould conducting - no music - just adding what he wants when he wants - two emmense geniuses in the same room - Bach Gould....

Despite it's rather clunky and anemic sound by today's standards, this is still an electrifying and outstanding performance. It gives me goosebumps and tears every time. What a tremendous tragedy that GG did not conduct/play/explain more of these diamonds from Bach.
