all ovals are definitely not the same. The tracks are very different. For example take the difference between Bristol and Martinsville. They are around a same distance, but Bristol is a faster in the turns with high banks and longer turns, while Martinsville is flat and like a paper clip.

In a test for a new communications system in 2006, Rusty Wallace averaged 221 MPH around Talladega and had a max speed of 228. With enough tuning, you could add at least 5 MPH to that.

there is in fact one other former F1 driver who has gone to NASCAR that many people seem to have forgotten: jacques villeneuve. he may not have gotten a proper chance yet, as he has only competed in one Cup series race at Phoenix last autumn, but he is still on the books at Bill Davis Racing, and may compete again by the end of this season.
