@CharlyFiasco Is that to save fuel? or is it because they are real men in Europe and not lazy like us Aussies and the americans?

a worn clutch also happens from 20 years of use or when its old! DUH what an expert!

@dougaholic wow don't us Australians lazy lol have a bit of national pride the correct term is laid back we worked hard to get the whole laid back thing going dont ruin it by telling them what we're really like lol. Going by population percentages heaps more Aussies know how to drive manual than Americans I been there noone knows how to do it.

btw DSG is based on the conventional manual principles.
It is two automated manual transmission with two clutches, in one housing.
And yes, in some situations DSG can jerk as well...
another fail from ... ( 3 months ago by DaBluedude100)
another fail from expert village... worn out clutches are a result of clutch slippage. to simply say too much gas totals a clutch is a useless statement...

@dougaholic
its totally because we are real men in europe I think :D
No, just kidding, I like both but manual transmission gives you more freedome while driving a sportscar. In a Escalade or a S-Class you need comfort so you go with the auto transmission... thats it thats all.
@dougaholic todays ... ( 2 months ago by juanwernicke)
@dougaholic todays automatic transmition have 5 or 6 gears sequential, but oldest had like 3 or 4 so in fact it didnt save fuel altought is more confortable to drive in city with automatic, but I still prefer manual is like the way I learn to brush my teeth :D. Aussies like Madmax are cool!

@DaBluedude100 he might have meant too much acceleration when releasing the clutch, that's sure to do some damage.
@dougaholic Sure ... ( 2 months ago by DaBluedude100)
@dougaholic Sure power shifting isn't great on clutches. But a clutch and flywheel that are meant for it are going to be ok. Clutches get worn out over time and the biggest thing that kills them off are fast activations. Yes that happens from power shifting but it also comes from inexperienced drivers who aren't smooth with their shifts. I see 1-2 shifts where the whole car jumps all the time and it's hilarious.
clutches wear out ... ( 2 months ago by reap62)
clutches wear out wether your an expert driver or some clueless moron, the only factor that you have control over is the actual length of clutchlife depending on your driving habits and conditions such as steep hills

Only the weak drives automatic.
@taxmonkey123 @ ... ( 2 months ago by caseboyed)
@taxmonkey123 @taxmonkey123 Well, it depends what you are doing with it. For someone who is really into drag racing, they will probably go with an automatic, seeing as you cannot "out-shift" an automatic. However, there are a few 8 second cars with manual transmissions. Manuals can be more fun on the street, because a stalled automatic is worthless unless its stalled up off the line. But, that's just my 2 cents. I drive an 06 GTO... T-56!!
@CharlyFiasco but ... ( 1 month ago by TomJackson986)
@CharlyFiasco but like every highway has high speed limits, your lucky to go 120 kmph in America so manual isnt as fun because you never use all your gears

@taxmonkey123 I don't know, I'd say only the fearful. It's not good to learn how to drive a standard on a 2010 v8 Camaro. That's scary lol. Not only are you afraid of ruining the clutch, but wow that car has some serious tork.

I have rarely driven automatic transmission cars, my last two manual cars both had their original clutches at 120,000+ miles when they were traded in, these cars both spent a lot of time in London traffic which is very much stop start. My current car has done a little over 40,000 miles in the first year, I expect the clutch to last for the 3 or 4 years I will have the car. I do know of a youngster who ruined a clutch in under 2000 miles in a turbo nutter version of my car.
