By some estimates, Borneo's vast forests are being cleared faster than the Amazon. Unless something is done now, Orang-utans could be extinct in 20 years.
The practice of bulldozing everything to make way for palm oil plantations has left Orang-utans without their customary habitat. "Palm oil is totally destructive. They're cutting down every single tree", complains Lone Droescher-Nieslen from the Orang-utan Survival Foundation. When the forests dis
appear, Orang-utans cling to any stump in the cleared land, unable to understand their homes are gone. It's left to charities to rescue the apes before the plantation workers kill them. Lone hopes she can rehabilitate the Orang-utans back into the wild. But if the rate of de-forestation continues, t
here may soon be no forests to release them into.

| Unfortunately the world we live in is driven by commerce. While companies are not obliged to disclose where they source their Palm Oil it makes it impossible to avoid supporting this industry. The only way to avoid this is to put pressure on our own government to compel companies to disclose the sources of all their ingredients, including Palm Oil. This way, people who care can make an informed decision. |

| every one think that when they plant new trees the forest will regrow but thats not true because the animals in the area dies and never return and i have done som research and many speces have alredy dissapeared! so the best think to do is to leav the forest alone ant think of what you by in the stores!! |

| You need a donation link for this rescue org. I've seen other pieces about them, they do hard work very well. They deserve more funding to help these orangutans as much as possible, and to educate the people around there. |

| This video was too disturbing to comment on when first I viewed it 1-year ago. BOSF now has more than 600 orangs. Will next year be 800? As a visitor, I have witnessed the incredible volumes of smoke coming across the Strait. The air is unbreathable, choking. I am told, "It's controlled burns from Indonesia." I didn't know that I was inhaling burnt orangs. It's not just orangs dying, but hundreds of species. |
