Argerich is a racehorse. Why ask a racehorse to walk when it is so much more natural to run? I have an absolutely astonishing recording of Prokofiev 7th Sonata played by the esteemed Argerich. It's not in the same league as the Horowitz recordings, but her playing is so incredible...how could you pass it up?

I agree , she did it better in her DG recording. But listen to the big arpeggios starting ppp at the top of the keyboard and going down crescendo with a f and then going up in diminuendo. Ravel's adjective for the execution of all the arpeggios going up in diminuendo was : Tout
à fait évanescent (completely vanishing). As far as I know Argerich is the one who does this best.

True, even though the above was a bit hurried, I really admired her ppps. Though if you haven't heard Thibaudet's version, you might like to. Best Scarbo I have ever heard. And he does the vanishing ppps pretty darn well too.

Astonishing... The most valuable thing - after all - is perhaps the unmistakable characterization of the "tale" (all the inner voices). Deprecable, maybe, the "running" (so fast), but she's so "generous" and passionate!... (Nice work the video too.)

she never attacks the piano like some other pianists whose interpretations pale in comparison; even the loudest passages here are elegant and beautiful. i don't actually like scarbo as much as ondine, but argerich gives it such personality that i can't be anything but overwhelmingly positive. she is a genius.
