Uploaded by: KeepItSmooth
Video Description:
This is a live BBC television appearance from 1972 on a show Called the Old Grey Whistle Test. This was a show that had performances from all the most popular acts of the time. Bowie looks great and sounds better. I have more of this show as well.

In the late 60's and 70's hip people often referred to themselves as "freaks". That distinguished them from "straights" ie, People who were normal or middle class. Bowie was creating a character that was bisexual, futuristic and definately freaky. Freak was no put down. They weren't talkin' elephant man here. Wild, weird and freaky was the name of the game. So don't worry.

I know this from reading about the man. If you read about him you'll find out how he treats people. The man took complete advantage of his position.
I am very sorry to hear of your condition and I hope you manage to deal with it. My warmest regards to you.
I never expected Bowie to nurse his brother. What I'm trying to say is, he had enough money to buy an Island if he wanted to. I expect he should have at least got him out of the horrible asylum that was Caine Hill. True to form Bowie.

I know what Bowie did to his brother, and i agree with jellybean00 here, that it would be quite difficult to deal with someone in that situation. Not everyone is perfect.
When Charlie ... ( 1 month ago by bargeanimal)
When Charlie Chaplin saw the conditions his mother was living in in Cane Hill, and he had enough money, he soon got her out of there. Just as Bowie could easily have put his brother somewhere else - and don't anyone say AGAIN, you don't know what it's like to look after someone in that condition. A few great albums in his day but Bowie has to be treated as dodgy. Don't know how anyone can't see that to be very honest.

The song starts ... ( 1 month ago by samwestonpotter)
The song starts with an open C chord. He then plays a G barre chord and F barre chord, and then back to the C. The way he frets these barre chords, however, is a bit unconventional. The typical way of playing a G barre chord (if you're not familiar, you said you've only been playing a few weeks) is to lay your entire index finger across the 3rd fret, and then the fret positions are like this (low e to high e): 355433. The F bar chord is simply this hand position two frets lower, 133211.
The way that Bowie ... ( 1 month ago by samwestonpotter)
The way that Bowie plays these bar chords, however, is slightly different. He plays the higher four notes of the bar chords, but he plays the bass notes with his thumb, and omits the notes played on the 2nd string (A string). This is a technique most associated with Jimi Hendrix. It's a good technique to learn, as a lot of Hendix's music (and others, such as Stevie Ray Vaughn) is only playable this way. Good song to start off your guitar playing with! Queen Bitch is one of my faves.

Man, Bowie was drugged out, like most of us and nearly bankrupt at the time of PinUps.
He had an entourage and they were doing a lot of coke. Folks on dope usually are fairly selfish and self - absorbed. IOW they're rather thoughtless when it comes to taking care of loved ones. If you'd lived through the 70's you'd know what I mean. I have no idea if Bowie could have done better
fot his bro, but he's probably lucky to have survived those times himself.
