i'm starting a return to nature "school of thought" If people join in they can do two things. 1.) Give their live meaning by escaping from the consumerism and jobs we hate that engulfs our lifes.
2.) Helping the environment by living simple and being happy with our short time on this beutiful planet.
It is hard to do, because people returning to simplicity are considered abnormal in today's society. I think people who live in 4000 sq. foot houses are abnormal in their thinking.

the movie and song gave me a need to thank the good Lord for what he has given for us and to not take mother nature for which was a gift for our pleasure and happiness. nature and prayer soothes the heart like none other, and we can be reminded of this when we are among the natural forces.

I guess prayer and the "good lord" did not give you the ability to avoid run-on sentences? Just a little "FYI" for you; the homo-sapien species has always thrived off of nature. This has been the case for all of our species' existence. Chris was trying to find his basic instinct and become a new man. He lost the fight with "Mother Nature" because he was not brought up in a "basic instinctual" world. To throw a God into this conversation would be completely missing the point.

i know what the story is all about, and how he fatally ate a poisonous plant. his adventure and story along the way completely relates to the spiritual side of things. simplicity takes after the example of how the Lord wants us to live our life. being more in tune with nature increases our attraction toward right brained creativity, which is spiritual. i am not in a writing or rhetoric course while on youtube so i don't think my sentence structure matters that much.

I agree with you completely...except I love my 4,000 sq. foot house! :) I actually live quite simply and give to charity. I am an intelligent, easygoing, down-to-earth, tree-hugging girl, but I love my home and my yard - much of it is forest and wild growth. I love the wildlife and the peaceful setting in which I live and write (I left the "rat race"). That doesn't make me abnormal at all.

that's great, if your house uses renewable energy to keep your impact down - GREAT! I know a lot of older homes build at the turn of 1900s that are 1,500 sq. foot and very inefficient. I'm talking about "McMansions" - in the suburbs of Des Moines there are miles as far as the eye can see of cooky cutter "super-size" homes. I just don't see the need. Yes, it would be ideal to live in a large log-cabin, getting all energy "off-the-grid" and away from the rat race. Can we get married now?

I would never give to charity as Chris McCandless did. I however would personally go and help those in need. Charities are the same as corporate companies.
