I agree. This is probably my favourite song of all time. I think Creep conforms more with the american MTV definition of "rock", hence its popularity. It was a single too, so I suppose that is where most peoples appreciation of Radiohead begins and ends.

It's the tone. Lyrically, there's nothing happy or optimistic. But when mixed with the brilliant music and Yorke's sincere passion, the song does gain a sort of almost laughing, "well, what can you do but keep on going?" tone. It's not optimistic, but it's real and it's enough to get by the monotonous melancholy of day to day life.

Actually, whether the song is depressing or not, some of the most depressing songs ever made can be uplifting, especially to people who are going through what the musician was at the time. For example, Joy Division's "Ceremony", when taken in context, was one of the last songs ever written by Ian Curtis before he took his own life. The song is depressing to me but leaves me with optimism every time I hear it. Anyways, if this song is supposed to be depressing, it didn't have that effect on me.
