I was in Air Force Tech school in 1960 when this record was released. We played it over and over in the baracks along with Brenda Lee's I'm sorry. We felt we were the "solder boys" they were singing about :-)

ohhhh.. I was wrong it was not in 1960 but 1962..I was not at Keesler AFB but at Homestead AFB in Miami. I guess my memory has escaped me as I got older LOL

Nonsense. Green Day ("Wake Me Up When September Ends") and Richard Thompson ("Dad's Gonna Kill Me") are two rock artists who come to my mind immediately who've written sympathetic songs about soldiers facing death in the current Iraq conflict. I'm sure there are others slipping my mind. Perhaps you mean songs that are uncritically flagwaving and pro-war.

January 62, big hit at Ft Dix NJ. All us draftees could relate to it as we entered basic training. No regrets, I believe the huge majority of us enjoyed our 2 year stay. Too bad they don't have it today, we could use the draft now since most of our youths have become too soft.
