I dont think "Coheed and Cambria" is a tad comparable to Yes. Lmao. But, yea new music is pretty bad....not gonna lie.

You want complexity from new bands? TOOl is the first modern band that comes to mind that does it well. As with bands like Dream Theatre, Mars Volta, and Dillinger Escape plan, they make very complicated music too, but I don't think they do it as well as TOOL does, although they are all very different bans. Coheed and Cambria are childs play compared to YES or the bands I listed. Most modern bands don't push them selves musically like bands in the late 60's and early 70's did. Thanks Pro Tools!

The Mars Volta is ... ( 4 weeks ago by SuzakuFireborn)
The Mars Volta is definitely comparable to these guys, every member producing a self reliant part? I'd say that's impressive. Not to mention their ability to use effects, something that Yes liked to do. A lot of bands out there don't want to play like these guys anyways, some of their riffs sound like random forest elves came up with it.

I saw most of the biggest acts of the 70s. I probably saw Yes the most. It's hard to put in words how incredible they sounded live. It was absolutely stunning! I had a friend who just didn't understand my love for Yes. We always liked the same hard rock bands of the 70s, but when I played Yes records, he just didn't get it. I bought him a ticket to a Yes concert to prove my point. He was speechless. For the next week, he bowed to me everytime he saw me and said "Yes rules". I said, "told you!"
These guys were a ... ( 1 week ago by steelsoul48)
These guys were a great band. Bands nowadays have not an idea of what it's like to play or compose this kind of stuff. I miss bands like these guys. We've got enough J Timberlakes etc. Where are the new great bands!
Sorry, I'm a ... ( 1 week ago by pdon297402)
Sorry, I'm a product of the early 70's and worshiped the Yes but music moves on and Timerlake is a great artist who plays numerous instuments, writes his own music and sings his own songs. I think you need to find one of the other so called artists who doesn't do any of the above.

Exactly! Music moves on. We went from cavemen banging sticks on rocks and chanting, to Mozart, to Yes, and now we are back to cavemen banging sticks on rocks and chanting

Yeah, I don't think Timberlake could write or compose anything like Close to the Edge. His skills are not in the same league as Yes!

Maybe it's because he was the new guy at this point, so he couldn't be all flashy like entering humbly. Besides, drummers can't abide by long, flowing sleeves.

The fundamental difference is simple. It is the difference between writing music and inventing music. Timberlake writes where YES invented and defined.
