The incident happened in the Criterium International, not the Tour de France, in 1997 in the south west of France near Toulouse. The horse left the field only 20km from the finish of the race. Thankfully nothing serious happened to any of the riders. The stage was won by an Once rider

I have to admit, that was a beautiful sight seeing the equine running with the cycles. Hopefully no one got hurt when it initially jumped the fence. A real symbiosis of man and beast.

and timshelldk...the tour orginizers didnt kick him out, his team did because he lied about where he was during mandatory off season drug tests..so before you start bashing the uci, which also does not run the tour, the aso does, get your facts right
