Yes. Both Michael (Brecker) and Bob (Berg) are no longer with us anymore. Those 2 guys were on the leading edge. They were pushing the envelope. Others need to step up. ie Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Bob Mintzer. In there own way I think they are. Michael was a God. I don't know if he will ever have any equal.

honestly i think the closest we will ever get to another berg or brecker will be with Chris Potter. if you havent checked that guys shit out.... man... he manages to make the most abstract time signatures groove harder than shit. like... 13/16 15/8, the man will blow your mind

Totally agree, VHSguitar. Berg and Brecker are sadly missed, but Potter is now filling the void. Bob Mintzer's playing with the Yellowjackets is pretty interesting too.

I thought Berg did a great job on this tune. Brecker did the studio recording of this tune which was part of a whole suite of quartets. If you have never heard the "Three Quartets" album it is a must have for any Chick or Brecker fan. It is sad that both Brecker and Berg are gone. I have tried to find this DVD but can't. Any help?

yes, I really have to agree 100%, really nice try on Berg's part, but Brecker just nailed it way too well on the original recording...it's really unfair to anyone else who has to try to fill his shoes.

Gadd is the Jim Hall of drums...he doesn't go on outrageous solos like the others but what he plays is outstanding, yet difficult yet pleasant to listen to. He's amazing. Weckl and Vinnie hell yes, but Gadd....he's unstoppable...and unique as balls.
