The late great Peggy Lee, a favorite of mine (I'm a huge Jazz fan). Peggy was a singer in The Benny Goodman Orchestra before going solo. You may also know her as the voice of the Siamese Cats in Disneys 'Lady and The Tramp.'

I believe that when she came out with this, the Beat scene was hot. If my memory serves me right, yep I was alive when this came out, minimalism in art, music, architecture, etc. were hot. She was what was called a "chanteuse" a female nightclub singer. Her style was meant for up close and personal in the clubs. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it (smile).
