Wow.. I've watched this video many times before, but I never noticed that at 0:39 the signal into the siding goes from green to red even before the lead unit got into the block. I'm always paranoid about that happening when I'm coming up to a siding.

To the first person in this chain of comments - how did the train that the camera is in, know that the other train was going to run a signal and head onto the single track? Trains are very heavy. People who know nothing about trains (the vast majority of people who posted on this video), think they can stop quick. They can't. Even one locomotive weighs 400,000 lbs. Your car is about 2,000 lbs. Now, just imagine an entire train.

Signalling was not a factor in this crash. And signalling isn't that difficult in the US.
I did not read the report but it is possible the engineer (US term for driver) missed the signal. More likely as he came very close to not fouling the switch, he just didn't have his train under control and rolled into the fouling point.
