On May 12th an earthquake shook the Sichuan Province. Hundreds of schools collapsed, killing thousands of pupils. Parents are asking why did the schools fall when other buildings withstood the quake?

What do you mean? Bribes are of value in an economy? C'mon, I can't say for sure that the building was built shabbily, I agree on that score, but the families of the dead children do think it was built shabbily. Why would one building in the entire area collapse so completely while the others stay erect? I think it looks like the building was built poorly. Often in schools the kids get the poorest quality things, look at the food in school for instance, the hamburger is of the lowest quality.

聚源中学)" is in "dujiangyan(都江堰)" and it is one of the hardest hit area? And do you know tens of thousands of other buildings in that area collapsed in the earthequake including some neighbouring that middle school?

From the video you don't get these infos, do you? It is true that some other buildings neighbouring this school didn't collapse (although damaged), but they are mostly apartment buildings which have no large-span rooms like classrooms. That is a very possible reason for the easier-collapse of school buildings. What we should focus on is 1. find the truth, is there indeed bribes involved in building the school? 2. to have a tougher quality-standard for school buildings in the future;

Emotional although inaccurate experssions won't help. It is understandable for the parents to blame the school without solid evidence, but the journalist shall tell the truth, but not biased report, this video didn't even dare to show a whole-view picture of the middle school, with which you can have a better idea of this event (some buildings neighbouring it collapsed as well). I am amazed that the journalist went there by himself and should know the truth and still gave this biased report

And do you notice this video is free of charge while many others from journeymanpictures requires a fee to watch the whole video..... And actullay all their videos bashing China are free of charge. who's paying for them? what's the intention? Find the truth and solution or intentionally bashing China? If you choose to believe this blindly then I have no words to say, I have other more important things to do....

China is a easy target and good scapegoat for almost anything: Darfur, Somali, pollution, tibet, taiwan.....

I'm impressed with your love of China and I apologize for jumping to conclusions without knowing the fact completely. I am not one to blame China for anything, I know China has about 1 billion people or more and the gov't has to be very strict and keep total control and in doing this it will inadvertently restrict personal freedoms that we might enjoy elsewhere, this is what I mention to detractors. I am really pointing out the possibility of bribes, in China, the US, etc.and how awful they are

Thank you for understanding. Actually I love China and our culture and have no favor for the current china government/communism. I blame China government a lot in Chinese forums, But as you said, things in China are different and complicated. I am just amazed by biased report of China in almost every western media which I trusted before....

These biased reports won't do any good to China and the west. And furthermore I think this is dangerous, because misunderstandings between west and east can cumulate and cause harms eventually. For example, if Bush knows the accurate info before Iraq war, American and Iraqi people may not be bogged into the war...

I agree. It occurred to me that the videos on this venue will show certain things and then we, the viewer, comes to the conclusion that THEY want, rather than any other. I can see it's important to hold judgment on most stories since the videographers and producers are very clever in helping us to mislead ourselves!

I don't agree with the government's censorship on web, but the biased reports of China in almost every western media indeed give Chinese government a good excuse to censor them...Note, there are two groups in China Government, one wants reformation and more freedom, one aginsts reformation, they are in delicate balance now. Biased reports from the west actually helps the conservative group to against more freedom...

When will the government or company gonna stop being gayer to us normal peoples? We work and do some team work to keep our city's, friends, and the government on going. We help the government by working and economy yet the government is doing shitty stuff to us. Oh well all these happen in every nation anyway. There always pressure. Sad to see the young died mostly. This is a good and touching documentary. The resilience of those parents is amazing. The Sichuan earthquake laid bare (as all disasters do) some fundamental problems in China, corruption of high officials being only one of them. This has also consequences for China's one child policy.
