Michael Jordan 1997: First Game Vs. Shaq/Kobe Lakers, 30pts

Uploaded by: hoopsencyclopedia
Video Description:
If I remember correctly, I believe MJ had one of his all-night-golf outings before this game which was one reason why his shot might have eluded him this night. This game was interesting in that MJ was meeting Shaq in LA for the first time. On a side note, the appetizer was a very young and skinny Kobe Bryant who was given 10 minutes in his first ever game against his idol. And as MJ greeted a rookie Shaq in Orlando in their first meeting with a block, MJ welcomed the future star to a modest dunk in their very first matchup (the 2nd meeting is also uploaded on my channel).
But the story of the game was the game. The Bulls were taken aback by an amazing night from Van Exel and Shaq and fell behind by 22 at the half. MJ's shot was only visible at the end of the half which was probably why the Bulls didn't drop by 30. In the 2nd half, MJ became what he would call "Th
e Utility Man". He plugged all the holes and did the dirty work - hustling on defense, setting screens, passing to the hot man etc. Down 18 points in the 4th, Kukoc and Pip stepped up and stood besides MJ's leadership and brought the game to OT. And while MJ's shot was still MIA, he drilled the nail
-in-coffin free throws to seal the game. This was one of the most amazing comebacks ever and one reason why the Bulls were the Bulls.

i think you should see for yourself he's just t.h after all...trying hard to be someone else why can't he be himself it's ok to look on others as role models but comparing that you are someone else is a different story. MJ is legend and that can never be replaced another thing you're pointing is your KOBE the best right now. Look for yourself, he can score 81 but against underrated teams and he's a player which can be immediately shutdown.that's what you're calling best right now, think again =(
The one thing thats ... ( 1 month ago by LeeDiddy990)
The one thing thats different about this era of basketball is no handchecking. todays nba players get to the paint at will just look at how Lebron was able to beat the pistons too years ago for proof. Im not trying to degrade Lebron or Kobe because their both good players. but MJ played in a more physical era of basketball hands down. thats what will always seperate michael jordan from those that imitate the legend.

LOL, whats the result of: extreme pressure + no time + annoying players you dont want to mess with your majesty + against the all odds + jordan getting angry in the court = the chicago bulls wins (every single fucking time) for me jordan was/is/will be the only athlete that made/makes/will make me thing im watching cartoons. i mean, in dbz, goku allways saved the day, it was cheesy, but its ok...is a cartoon, but when mj played that supossed to be the reality isnt it??? i still have doubts : )

Please, watered down D? I think that was during MJ's time, look at how poorly he was defended sometimes, teams knew what he could do and they didnt make adjustments to try and stop him. Yes he was dominant, but agaisnt mediocre defense and athletes
Yikes. He was ... ( 2 weeks ago by Necrophile)
Yikes. He was playing against great Defenses such as the Detroit Pistons of old and the New York Knicks. The Eastern Conference was the hardcore of hard nosed defenses and now u can not even lay hands on a player. There are great atheletes today but none like MJ and no team as dominant as the 72-10 Chicago Bulls. Period.

i wouldve loved to see 1992 jordan vs kobe of right now.with kobe's lockdown defense,it would be difficult for mj to shine, but mj was one of the best at defense too so it would be a grind out matchup.one thing they have in common no one can argue with is that theyre both hall of famers, the best of their time and they always entertained at the end of the day thats what matters

Man no disrespect to kobe fans or any other fans, but what footage r u guys watching. MJ WOULD DESTROY KOBE, VC, TMAC OR ANY OTHER PLAYER TO EVER PLAY THIS GM PERIOD. HOW HARD IS IT TO ADMIT IT, SEE IT. Im mean, MJ was torching these guys at the age of 40. Cmon. No way Kobe can COME CLOSE TO MJ, NO WAY. Great vid Hoops my friend, keep it up.

no back then you could actually..touch a nba player....if lebron was playing back then...that mothafucker..would be eaten alive...by injurys due to the hard fouls... now you cant even touch them lebron just goes in and does lay ups..and everybody avoids him because they dont want to foul..

kobe was never the kind of shut-down defender Jordan was. You can put up blocked shots, steals, and rebounds, etc. but no stats define what Jordan could do defensively. And the stats favor Jordan in every way yet it is still the invisible stuff that makes him GOAT
