A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petro products were exported during the first four months of 2008, up 33% from the same period in 2007. Shipments this February topped 1.8 million barrels a day for the first time during any month, according to the Energy Department.
The surge in exports appears to contradict the pleas from the U.S. oil industry and the Bush administration for Congress to open more offshore waters and Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.

A friend of mine was just saying a few days ago that Palin should be asked questions on Energy since the Mccain camp are claiming she is suppose to be some kind of "expert"...these are the same people who said she had foreign policy experience, LMAO, b4 Katie Couric and Charles Gibson asked her questions on foreign policy and she was a like a moose caught in headlights.

I don't get what is so wrong about her answer. From what I understand the question was on weather or not if oil was produced domestically it would be used in US markets first. Since Oil is a homogeneous product depending on the type of crude it doesn't matter if you get domestic or foreign supplies, however you may want to ensure a portion for your domestic market.

maybe you're not aware of this but the USA have been producing and exporting crude oil to foreign countries since 1920...what most of us find hilarious is that the Mccain camp have somehow made it out to the GOP that Alaska will somehow solve the Energy problem, they failed to mentioned that between 2006-2007 the USA exported over 28million barrels of crude oil to foreign nations...there is no need "drill baby drill" in Alaska to ease the dependency of foreign oil...check the EIA report

her answer should've been... 1. USA is producing ?... 2. USA is exporting ?.. 3. USA is importing ?.. 4. Her proposal/solution to ease the energy crisis? 5. Laws to be put in place to limit or reduce oil exports. 6. This is what Alaska drilling will do?? 7. this is how it will affect us positives
/negatives she should answer questions like an educated person.

I find it odd you guys would export out energy since you are net importers. Wouldn't it make sense to send it to your own refineries? Either way increased production should lower prices. OPEC will likely be decreasing output soon since they said they would defend the 100/barrel mark. If you have increased production from non-OPEC producers it should help reduce their monopoly. I don't see a problem with wanting to drill more in Alaska. There haven't been any issues in Prudhoe Bay.

* the price has already dropped below 100/brl..it's currently 77/brl. I wouldn't be surprised if OPEC try to do what you've just suggested to stabilize the price. * The USA exports crude
petroleum products due to the quality of their crude which has the lowest levels of sulphur.
I don't have a problem about drilling in Alaska, I'm just saying Mccain/Palin are misrepresenting that Drilling in Alaska will somehow solve American energy dependency, which is not true.

The thing is, that whoever is selling the oil, wouldn't want to lower prices. Nobody in their right minds would want to lose profits. So why would they? Because middle class Americans have a tighter budget now? Like the oil companies care about that.
