My Horse...My Love... My Life.

This horse is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love her more than the world and trust her more than anything. She has had a very hard life and i only wish to let her understand that all owners arent as cruel as those of her past. I can openly admit that i spoil her but she is not one to take the mick! I half own her with a good friend who rescued her and i am always in her debt for bringing her into my life. Petra is a sweetheart, she can be very cheeky but i dont mind as long as she can openly express herself. in fact i find it quite amusing when she tells me off by shaking her head at me and if she really doesnt want to do something she will shake her head and stamp her feet, as she demonstrated the other day when she didnt want to be stabled for the night, she planted her feet, shook her head at me and stamped her feet when i asked her to walk on. typical mare!!
Mine and petras relationship is based on trust and understanding, i try to ask her and not tell her to do something, she tends to tense up if she is unsure of something so i try to give her as much confidence as i can. she is so much more relaxed now and i want to keep it that way, if she tenses i
ask her for something else that she finds easy and try the original request another day. i dont believe in forcing an animal to preform, if she doesnt want to, for example, extend, i ask for something else and she is more willing, when she realises i am not going to force her to do anything. She
has taught me how to listen to horses, knowing what they are thinking by the way they move and respond. She made me realise that there is more to horses other than riding and general care, that just being with them calms me down and puts me in a good mood. She is my best friend and when im upset she
lends me her mane to cry in, and a shoulder to lean on and when im angry, just her welcoming nicker makes me smile. There is a quote which i think of when im with petra, 'There is no secret so close as that between a rider and her horse' if only i could express how true that is... Song: Daughtr
