Pavarotti has an incredibly powerful voice but in terms of conveying pure human emotion and connecting to the heart Paul Potts has him beat - at least where 'Nessun Dorma' is concerned. Perfect technique isn't everything.

I opera, perfect technique was something Pavarotti was absolute about. I still think Pavarotti is the best tenor ever. That said, I think Paul Potts is most amazing and I'm happy he won, and I'm guessing Pavarotti would be proud.

To compare both - that's just for very simple people. Pavarotti was on the end of his career and fully developed in this video. Paul Potts has just started his career.He is young and will have a plenty of time and now even the money to develop his voice. At the beginning Pavarotti had to learn and study too. He wasn't born as a perfect singer.

I think, Pavarotti would have tried to teach smth to Pott how to sing Nessun Dorma and he would have adviced him to learn the technique of singing and bel-canto, before he ever sings again.

it's funny in Germany, 2007 has won a opera singer, too. his name was riccardo marinello... pretty good singer... but it was in the same year.

What you need to do is hear these great Italian tenors live in a hall that seats only 200 people. They don't need microphones. In fact, their voices bellow beyond belief. It blows you away.

Althought the quality of the pavarotti recording was horrible, what you've uncovered here is that Pavarotti is one of a kind, Potts is a good amatuer but not 1% of the talent. There are only a hand full in a lifetime, in our lifetime pavarotti was the best.

I never get a goose skin at pavarotti, but every time at paul. He is emotion, he sings with his heart, pavarotti with his brain. That's the difference I believe ! Pavarotti is great, but Paul is natural !

people...pavarotti has 10 years of music singing school, and his voice is trained to be fantastic..and Paul is mobile phone sailer..but when I listen to Paul I see Pavarotti..when Paul get his training with voice he will be like pavarotti,,and much more better..
