unless you're talking about the loser clubs that get like 30 people on weekends in like frisco or something where people dress up in black vinyl and listen to god aweful futurepop music/metropolis records and look like marylin manson fans.
bands that were underground had huge synth-pop hits. depeche mode, tears for ears, animotion, berlin-sex(charted top 10) falco(#1 in 86), devo, soft cell, omd(so in love went top 10), ABC, etc. etc. etc.
they all started out as underground bands. i grew up with kroq. but i know all about outside cali as well. even small towns had alt. radio stations(especially in 87'), clubs and college radio.

L.A. has the biggest electro scene in the u.s. next to new york. btw no one except lil kids say stfu, idjit.
electro-wave, technowave, etc is NOT emo. It's all 80s style rooted and far before any emo fuckcrap or happyfaces/rave/homo-house faggot shit came along. It's 80s not late 80s/early 90s. in fact the music covers acts like, the normal, fad gadget, depeche mode, human league, etc. Definitly nothing
like the Extacy queerish house scene of happyness and glowsticks.
