Oh you are too ... ( 5 months ago by pellebravesskylar)
Oh you are too funny. Thank goodness Shrub can't be elected again - unless of course he claims he really wasn't elected in 2000 and thus, is not precluded from seeking another term. I think it's horrible how mean the press is to Weir. He's never done anything harmful to anyone, so bug off press. I love Weir's skating and think he's a hoot off the ice. Homophobia is still so rampant - just makes me so sad. I also think Weir is gorgeous - hey, I'm jealous of his boyfriend.!

I only watched the free skate today, thought Weir, Joubert and Buttle were all great, especially Joubert but I guess he had too much ground to make up. I hadn't seen too much of Weir before and was impressed at his artistry in particular. I do have a great soft spot for Mr. Buttle though, there is something really sweet and wholesome about him...

Yes, he seems to be a very nice guy - very handsome fellow. I was so happy he won this year - so many people seem to have written him off. Of course I want Johnny to do well, but I would not at all be unhappy if Buttle won the 2010 Olympics. It's time for a Canadian guy to be at the top!
Yeah, what is it ... ( 5 months ago by lyverbird)
Yeah, what is it with Canadian men and that Olympic figure skating title...?
Orser could have ... ( 5 months ago by pellebravesskylar)
Orser could have won in 1984 if it hadn't been for poor school figures; he barely lost in 88 to Boitano (who also outscored him in figures). Kurt Browning had a bad back that killed his chances in 1992. Elvis should have won in 1994 over Urmanov IMHO; a severe groin injury curtailed him in 1998. Buttle has a real chance, especially being world champ and defending Olympic bronze medalist - Viktor Petrenko remember won bronze before he won gold at the Olympics.

I was so upset for poor Elvis, what a tryer, he was pipped by a top notch skate by Kulik in 98 (one of those rare cases like Robin Cousins and Urmanov where he was never able to add World gold to Olympic gold), but I do think he should have placed ahead of Urmanov in 94 - one of a number of contentious decisions that year...
stop using these ... ( 5 months ago by markjohnrobbins)
stop using these video's of amazing sporting moments as a means of peddling your pro-gay/homophobic beliefs. Its people like you who who make it so that every time people go onto a video such as this, the topic of discussion isnt the magic we see, but the sexuality of the man. Appreciate the sport, shut up about the bloody nonsense which doesn't matter.
I absolutely agree ... ( 5 months ago by pellebravesskylar)
I absolutely agree with you. Elvis I think doubled his first jump - a planned triple (or even quad) in his 1994 long program but that was his single error - if you can call it an error. Everything else was amazing. His spins were better than Urmanov's and Alexi made a rather obvious mistake when he landed a jump awkwardly similar to Orser's mistake in 1988. Unlike Orser, the marks didn't reflect the error. Elvis is one of the all time greats and he should have won in 1994.

I too remember ... ( 5 months ago by pimperneldog)
I too remember watching this performance as a boy. Curry was truly amazing - a superb athlete with artistic talentry attaining perfection. I was cheering my head off by the time the routine ended - and what a wonderful end! Bravo!!!
I agree - Elvis ... ( 4 months ago by raymonda100)
I agree - Elvis should have won over Urmanov. The judges didn't like his 'unconventional' music. The scoring is much less subjective now.

Why don't you shove it? I don't always mention homophobia. And maybe you're homophobic you little prick. BTW, "pro-gay/homophobic beliefs" is an oxymoron, you moron.
What I love about ... ( 3 months ago by LWOPP)
What I love about Curry and so many other skaters from that era is that they took. their. time. with all the elements. What's the rush these days? Although they may seem like dinosaurs to younger people now, Curry had those gorgeous running edges and Robin Cousins had his delayed single axel. Those and other "old fashioned" elements were things of beauty, and the skaters gave you time to appreciate them before going on to the next move. I miss that kind of skating!

Man. That opening single Axel was gorgeous. That was ballet right there.

This guy is absolutely wonderful. He had briliant hand and feet positions. His performances were emotional and he pulled everyone in with him. If you can leave a mark that causes people to yearn for yesterday, then you are a legend. I really don't even watch skating anymore because it is so boring and standard (who can jump the highest). Thank goodness I was around to see this on television. There will never be another one like him because he possessed a natural artistic ability. Thanks, John.
