No your not a complete geek... they can spell Love... But your right the name of the song is Misirlou. A surfing song from the 60s. Played by a left handed guitarest... who didnt get a left handed guitar... he just flipped over a right handed guitar. Mr Dale is one of the GREATEST of all time.

I'm really getting into Dick Dale, I love Misirlou and Nitro. Surfin' is good too.
And I consider myself a real metal fan lmao! I'm glad that a guitarist who tremolo picks in a lot of songs constantly manages to make a song exciting. Tremolo picking is my specialty (I think lmao) and I can't make songs as interesting as Dick Dale. TOTALLY underrated!

Yeah dick dale has the best tremelo picking. He isnt the fastest person but he adds so much style to it, he actually makes it a creative part of his song, he dosent make a demonstration of speed. I think its funny how he picks with his whole arm and can still pick so fast. :D

Yeah, he's really loose. And that normally makes a lot of players messy, but obviously 'cos he's played/practiced for all these years he's basically perfected his own art haha
Btw, the pop noises he does - is that just from doing pinched harmonics on a clean guitar? =s

Um im not sure what pop noise your talking about, but i get his sound best with using the pickup closest to the neck and picking closest to the neck. but if your talking about the thing he does at 1:34 then that is from palm muting.

oh yeah and another thing for his sound is getting a heavier pick, the heavier the more hitting tone you get, but if its to heavy it will drown out the regular guitar sound and get in the way.

Ahhh cool. I tend to use quite heavy picks anyways lol Ahhh yeah, that's the popping noise I was on about. I guess I was thinking it was more complicated than it was lol
