havent seen either of the top two on this so i cant really comment, i have heard loads about the shining and how its very good, not so much about the thing, i have seen some clips of the thing but thats about all, and it did look pretty good.

i love identity! one of my favorite scary movies. i can't decide on my fav. horror movie. the ring was the scariest but not my fav and i think the only reason i was so scared is b/c it was the first scary movie i've ever seen. so it's either identity or cry wolf. but i'm going to watch poltergiest and i've heard that's really scary... probably the dumbest scary movies i've ever seen is boo or alone and the dark.

it is a hard decision the thing is personally my favorite american horror movie but the shining is a classic because kubrick has a very silent still type of style. his style fits the intense feelings you are suppossed to get from a horror movie. the thing is awesome because of the effects and i love how nobody trusted each other.

Interesting choices. I was surprised you chose "The Thing" as a # 1, considering you said you don't like gore/violence much. I find The Thing one of the most unpleasant movies I've tried to watch in that regard. Not really the biggest fan of The Shining either, just because it never much entertained me.
