The Devil Delusion -- Pt.2 (Dispelling the Myth of the Devil)

Uploaded by: Rhonda9
Video Description:
Celsus was a Greek philosopher and opponent of Christianity. He is known to us mainly through the reputation of his literary work, The True Word (Account, Doctrine or Discourse), almost entirely reproduced in excerpts by Origen, an early church father.

Celsus quotes taken from: The Jesus Mysteries Was the "Original Jesus" a Pagan God? By Timothy Freke
Peter Gandy
Robert G. Ingersoll -- The Ghosts (1877) "...It has always been believed that these ghosts could in some way be appeased; that they could be flattered by sacrifices, by prayer, by fasting, by the building of temples and cathedrals, by the blood of men and beasts, by forms and ceremonies, by chants
, by kneeling and prostrations, by flagellations and maiming, by renouncing the joys of home, by living alone in the wide desert, by the practice of celibacy, by inventing instruments of torture, by destroying men, women and children, by covering the earth with dungeons, by burning unbelievers, by p
utting chains upon the thoughts and manacles upon the limbs of men, by believing things without evidence and against evidence, by disbelieving and denying demonstration, by despising facts, by hating reason, by denouncing liberty, by maligning heretics, by slandering the dead, by subscribing to sens
eless and cruel creeds, by discouraging investigation, by worshiping a book, by the cultivation of credulity, by observing certain times and days, by counting beads, by gazing at crosses, by hiring others to repeat verses and prayers, by burning candles and ringing bells, by enslaving each other and
putting out the eyes of the soul. All this has been done to appease and flatter these monsters of the air." To read the entire work: http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/robert_ingersoll/ghosts.html Catholic Encyclopedia (New Advent) Information on the Devil: ... Although nothing definite c
an be known as to the precise nature of the probation of the angels and the manner in which many of them fell, many theologians have conjectured, with some show of probability, that the mystery of the Divine Incarnation was revealed to them, that they saw that a nature lower than their own was to be
hypostatically united to the Person of God the Son, and that all the hierarchy of heaven must bow in adoration before the majesty of the Incarnate Word http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04764a.htm I wanted to add this from Robert Ingersoll's works, because it is pertinent to this video. Please go an
d read the entire works. Ingersoll is magnificent! The Devil (1899) Robert Green Ingersoll "...In every orthodox Sunday school children are taught to believe in devils. Every little brain becomes a menagerie, filled with wild beasts from hell. The imagination is polluted with the deformed, the mons
trous and malicious. To fill the minds of children with leering fiends -- with mocking devils -- is one of the meanest and basest of crimes. In these pious prisons -- these divine dungeons -- these Protestant and Catholic inquisitions -- children are tortured with these cruel lies. Here they are tau
ght that to really think is wicked; that to express your honest thought is blasphemy; and that to live a free and joyous life, depending on fact instead of faith, is the sin against the Holy Ghost. Children thus taught -- thus corrupted and deformed become the enemies of investigation -- of progress
. They are no longer true to themselves. They have lost the veracity of the soul. In the language of Prof. Clifford, "they are the enemies of the human race." So I say to all fathers and mothers, keep your children away from priests; away from orthodox Sunday schools; away from the slaves of superst
ition. They will teach them to believe in the Devil; in hell in the prison of God; in the eternal dungeon, where the souls of men are to suffer forever. These frightful things are a part of Christianity. Take these lies from the creed and the whole scheme falls into shapeless ruin. This dogma of hel
l is the infinite of savagery -- the dream of insane revenge. It makes God a wild beast -- an infinite hyena. It makes Christ as merciless as the fangs of a viper. Save poor children from the pollution of this horror. Protect them from this infinite lie...." http://www.infidels.org/library/historica

Pkr, If you look at the historical past, religion was founded by the shedding of blood. That blood was not of the savior they believed in, but of the innocent people whom they intended to convert through force. In its beginnings
for a very long time they tortured, maimed and murdered millions of people. The Dark Ages
Inquisition contributed in silencing great thinkers.

Yes, I agree. But, if you believe in the devil you also believe in god Both concepts are far from reality and truth....the question may be WHY is there a need to believe in such power? Can you conceive a society without such thoughts...

Wait! You can't dispell the Devil yet! My next poem/vid is called "Satan is saving a special place for me" - you have to take these down and repost them after that! :P
5 stars anyway. Brat.

1. Rhonda. If you ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
1. Rhonda. If you are speaking of 'Devil' it should be a seperate argument to religion. You can reject religion totally and still belive in the Devil. Science has given us some really weird myths (The Either, Caloric theory of heat etc) but they have not been useless. By pushing our understanding of them we end up with something more truthfull - but not the whole truth. If you say you do not believe because there is no proof of such you are expressing a religious belief.
2. I say 'religious ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
2. I say 'religious' because you have rejected something that cannot be refuted. In the same way that people accept God unquestionly you have rejected the idea the same way and that is religion. Many Years ago there was an argument in physics in which Geology science said the earth was Hundreds of millions years old. Physics science said no that is not possible because the fuel in the sun could not burn that long. Anyway when Quantum/nuclear science was born Geology was proven correct.
3. I say correct ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
3. I say correct because both science's are in agreement now. During the early 20th century an argument occured in physics over the nature of light. Some said light was a wave others that it was a particle. The particle theory became known as quantum physics but was not accepted for years (Einstein never accepted it). In recent time there has been an argument over the nature of our existance (Big Bang theory) which maintains that the universe came into being though a large explosion.
4. The 'belief' is ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
4. The 'belief' is through the discovery of background radiation.
What I am trying to get across here is that we make up myths(or science)to try and get ourselves to understand the world better. You cannot simply reject something because Physical science cannot prove it. That science itself is flawed. However, we can attack Human interpretations of metaphysical existance(religion). If you had called this 'Dispelling the Religious myth of the Devil' I would have most likely agreed with you.
When you say that ... ( 1 month ago by Rhonda9)
When you say that the devil should be a separate argument apart from religion, you neglect to explain why. You go on talking about scientific endeavors as if there's a correlation and supporting argument favoring myth. You could also take the time to explain why science may some day be able to prove the tooth fairy
the purple-people eater as well, but it would still come off as nothing more than a loopy, philosophical dance with words that does not prove I'm religious or that the devil exists.
"Does any ... ( 1 month ago by Rhonda9)
"Does any intelligent man now, whose brain has not been deformed by superstition, believe in the existence of the Devil? What evidence have we that he exists? Where does this Devil live? What does he do for a livelihood? What does he eat? If he does not eat, he cannot think. He cannot think without the expenditure of force. He cannot create force; he must borrow it -- that is to say, he must eat. How does he move from place to place? Does he walk or does he fly..?"

Bogzy, 'pretty real' isn't reality.
1.Science cannot ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
1.Science cannot prove or disprove of anything metaphysical its all in the mind. Some people in the world consider the United states the manifestation of the Devil. Lab Animals if they could form a religion may consider Humans the reincarnation of the 'Devil'. The idea of Evil is very real. Religion is a product of our objective world but the Devil is not. So I reject your Ingersoll quote as he is again locked in the physical world of description. 'What does he eat' etc all physical phenomonon.

2.Let me try and make it clearer. When I look at Ronda9 I see a very nice American Lady but that is all. Now I go to America capture her' Torture her and find out everthing there is to know physically and mentally about her. I own her. However there is one thing I do not know and that is what is it like to be a woman called Rhonda9. This is something I can never know because I am not Rhonda9. I see everything in the world from the point of view of Conn6m.
3. Now if I start ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
3. Now if I start to say. This is what Ronda is and this is what Rhonda wants us to do, I would be forming a religion. I would be saying I know what you think and want in the physical world. I could say you came to me in a Dream and told me so.
Rhonda Exists, but what Rhonda 'is' is something I can never know. Religion of Rhonda is not Rhonda, only my interpretation of her. Only Rhonda can say what she 'Is'
Rhonda please don't ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
Rhonda please don't quote long dead thinkers. Put it in your own words. Have you never read Neitzsche - Be yourself. Ingersoll also wrote when speaking of Herbert Spencer. 'Spencer gave his theory of evolution and sustained it by countless facts. He stood at a great height, and with the eyes of a philosopher, a profound thinker, surveyed the world. He has
influenced the thought of the wisest'.
Yea right, the guy who coined the phrase 'survival of the fittest' that led to Eugenics - wise?

4. Sorry! just to finish off what I was saying yesterday. (and Im not putting you into any group I talk about)
I think that Atheism is a religion because of its similar attitude to ideas. People who do not belive in God have a blocked attitude to anything that smells god like. 'Marxists' (Bolsheviks) do not believe in God therefore they do not accept anything God like. The notion of Human rights is totally Alien. (just listen to any Soviet speaker on Rights) 'where do rights come from' -cont
5.Hell, its even ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
5.Hell, its even entered star trek language when Mr Spock says 'The good of the many out weighs the good of the few' Well thoes of us who believe in Rights don't agree. The good of the many does not out weight the good of the few or the one. People (and Animals) have basic individual rights independent of anything else. I know and believe this but I can't explain why. I am simply claiming that they do. At this point Fredrick Neitzche would lay into me and say something like. -cont
6. 'Yes but you are ... ( 1 month ago by conn6m)
6. 'Yes but you are just expressing Slave morality brought on by years of Christian Doctrine. The basis of your Logic is flawed because it is based on Arbitrary thought. There is no God or anything else out there handing out stone tablets about what is right or wrong. Rights do not exist' and thoes who belive in Animal rights are anti Human. (my interpretation of Neitzche not his actual words)
I know where you are coming from Fredrick but I don't agree. Perhaps I am a lost cause.
conn6m, You are ... ( 1 month ago by Rhonda9)
conn6m, You are long-winded and entitled to your opinions, but still haven't come up with any proof. You also seemed very confused. Atheism is the absence of belief. You can feel free to define it anyway you wish, but it still doesn't make it so. A dictionary would be a good place to start. This will be my last comment back to you, since I am only concerned with facts, not suppositions. I have to say you have a weird imagination, to say the least.
