The Garden faithful had watched this scene unfold too many times, especially at the hands of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. The clock showed 1:26 remaining and the Knicks had already blown a 14-point third quarter lead when John Starks instantly became a part of New York sports lore. Flashing around a Patrick Ewing screen, Starks drove baseline and exploded to the rim. Horace Grant and Jordan be damned, Starks rose to the rafters inhabited by past Knick greats and threw down a vicious, lefty tomahawk jam over both. An incredulous Garden crowd erupted at the sight as Starks bounded down the court forever a legend.

ps, massacred is a perfect word. but what's more, scottie would've probably guarded him most of the game. he usually guarded penny (with bad results). hell, now that i think about it, scottie usually guarded the biggest scorer on the other team unless it was a 6ft point guard or a 7ft center. with their size & interchangeability from point to power, the bulls always caused HUGE matchup problems for any team; mj was the low post man & pip was the point. no one could match up with that kinda shit

thats an excuse kobe scored 80 in a zone defense and average 33+ points a game in a zone defense. if he was the great player people make him out to be, he woulda came through i respect kobe, but i dont respect his apologizers the fact is that he IS NOT BETTER THAN MJ AND HE WILL NEVER BE!

wow someone needs to chill out.. listen its like this and im from chicago so you might wanna hear me out.. i grew up watching jordan pippen grant as a shorttie.. so heres my thoughts.. Kobe is the greatest offensive player the game has ever known.. period end of discussion.. everything else.. defense.. intensity.. clutch factor.. making people better.. every other category jordan is better than kobe.. but if you want a pure just raw scorer.. its kobe for sure..

Kobe best offensive player ever? for real? He shoots 45% averaging 25 for his career compared to Jordan's 30 shooting 50%... did I miss something, how is his offense better? I think you mean to say that his play is flashier, but in the end substance wins out. The Celtics proved Kobe can be easily contained. Jordan... er, not so much. Don't let that fluke 81 point game against the mighty Raptors fool you. David Robinson had 73 in a game, Wilt 100. Please explain how Kobe is better offensively...

ha!!! ultimate offensive weapon, wow kobe must be feeling really good that he scored 81 on a 27-55 team, even Phil Jackson said with the rule changes in the NBA today, MJ would average 45 points a game, if he was the greatest offensive weapon, he wouldn't have shot 40% from the field and averaged 25.7ppg against the Celtics, and you are from Chicago?!! the greatest offensive weapon would have 10 scoring titles, 929/930 games of 10 or more points shooting over 50% from the field with the Bulls...

one of the most overrated dunks of all time, and it was not on MJ, it was on Grant. everybody likes it because Starks isnt known for being that kind of player, he just shoots treys and plays great D, it was just a leaning tomahawk dunk and nothing more, when Pip dunked on Ewing the next year, or MJ on Ewing in 91, that is what u describe as getting dunked on

Yes, the fact that it was unexpected adds to its appeal and its greatness. When I was watching it live I was thinking to myself once he got past Armstrong and kept going, what exactly is he going to do now? I wasn't guessing dunk. Plus it was in the final minute of a close playoff game. And the fact that he dunked on Grant is hardly an insult. Plus Jordan was looming, which is usually enough to prevent small guards from attempting something like that.Especially with an important game onthe line.
