imho, and this just might be my ears, but it sounds like they are tuned e-flat to make the vocals easier. the original is in standard and he puts a hell of alot more feeling into it on the record.
i havent tried learning this at all, just a slight suggestion as to why.. i do know what you mean about it sounding off. just no "umph" behind the notes possibly

evhgl87, They've been tuning half step down since the 80s, you know..even in World Wide Live. I mean, they didn't do that just cause he 'can't sing anymore' or silly things like that I've heard..Not saying that you meant that in any case..

Silly things you've heard? evhg187is right. Meine had to have vocal chord surgery (so has Elton John, Phil Collins and others). Of course he can't hit the notes in the original recorded key. He blew his chords out in 1981 after a world tour and recording the Blackout album was told he needed to find another profession. However, thank goodness he had therapy and the surgery he needed to stay in the business. World Wide was not recorded till the mid 80's. Meine still kicks ass!!
