Future Shock (1972) 1/5

Uploaded by: invasive
Video Description:
This is a little known documentary based on the book Future Shock by Alvin Toffler.
See review here: http://oddculture.com/2004/11/13/movie-review-future-shock/ This movie came out in 1972 and features Orson Welles as the narrator. I was most amused by the high amount of paranoia in regards to the future... some of the segments (like people choosing their own skin color) are dow
nright hilarious. Worth a look - at the very least for its historical value. As far as I can tell, this documentary is in the public domain. Part 1 of 5

The moral of this movie? Change is Bad; things were better in the past; the future is scary; Avoid technology and progress; ridicule and shun those who would think progressively. Same as the platform of the G.O.P.

Nice to see sardonicism is not lost on you, my irony-deficient friend. You're also the only person in my entire life who's ever called me "Conservative." I guess I'll have a hard time explaining away all that money I gave to the Obama campaign...

You paint with a very broad brush...I know of quite a few anti-capitalist who identify with being liberal,,,and BTW also anti-globalization, anarchy, almost anything anti industrial or business related since they wish to return to a simpler working persons paridise...The anti-stem cell types tend to be very religious pro-lifers who would vote for either DEM or GOP based on the abortion issue alone. I think the Business minded GOPers welcome technological progress!

No doubt...in fact, didn't orwell do a movie called the late great planet earth...where he claimed manmade global cooling will freeze us to death? and starvation would result from the (current 70's non-GM) farming inability to feed are growing population.

Not only was I painting with a broad brush, I was simultaneously casting a wide net, cutting a wide swath, using a cannon to kill a mosquito, knocking down a straw man, broiling a red herring, making a mountain out of a mole hill, throwing the baby out with the bath water, and turing up my amp to "Eleven."

in the jewish book of ethics it says plain and simply "the more possessions man has, the more worries he has" (e.g. direct correlation) I do believe that there are definitive advantages and drawbacks of these technological upgrades.. one advantage being that we have more time for other things by using prepackaged and premade products/materials while a disadvantage could be the lack of consistency these choices grant us

1972...ha! This is almost funny. We are 3 years away from what the Mayans labeled the end of the age. Hmmmm. We'll see. The computers here are hilarious. If it was all so bad in '72 we would have all killed eachother by now. Guess 1972 was too much for the 'Brady' types. Lot of things have gotten worse for sure...but some things are better...or just SEEM better!? Bottom line: the Universe will welcome our honesty and best efforts OR it will be FINE without US screwing it up.
