How much would be the convertion cost? Are the Prius are the only one's capable of this convertion ?

LOL, I saw a guy make his Toyota Prius get 250MPG, of course he knew what he was doing, unlike these ammature people.

Lead acid batteries ... ( 1 year ago by arj44)
Lead acid batteries produce hydrogen gas when charging. I hope they're venting the H2 properly.
LEAD ACID?! That's ... ( 1 year ago by bingmobo)
LEAD ACID?! That's a step in reverse! The new one has Lithium Ion. MUCH lighter/more efficient/powerful.
he used lead acid ... ( 1 year ago by ubentu)
he used lead acid because at the maker faire they had LOTS of spare lead acid batteries (you could take them away for free) THAT is why they used them.
how does he know ... ( 1 year ago by ubentu)
how does he know it's 250 mpg if the prius only goes to 99 on it's monitor (duh, fill the tank up then go till the engine dies)

this was last year, now they made one that goes 170mpg (city tested) basicly if they go on the highway they don't have accellerate nearly as much.
Well, #1 he ... ( 1 year ago by celloprof)
Well, #1 he basically took his car apart and replaced a lot of stuff like the weak batteries and put in more better quality ones with much more voltge, THEN threw away the stock controler and designed one himself... #2. Somtimes he drove around everywhere without using the gas engine, he just used the electric motor over 50mile range, so its easy to get 250MPG when the gas engine is hardly ever running.
By the time his ... ( 1 year ago by celloprof)
By the time his batteries were dead, he was either already home for the day, or driving on highway doing 55MPH getting better MPG because all the bad MPG you get are usually in the city driving in Idle getting ZERO MPG or on the tak-offs burning fuel like crazy going in those high RPM's without going very fast.

Google just bought 6 of these plug in cars- including 2 ford escape hybrids. And google gave a big donation to these guys at calcars for being the people gathering the information among the hackers, and building political support. Check out Google's PHEV announcments, including YouTube videos.
Prius totally ... ( 1 year ago by 100MPG)
Prius totally overhyped! Weight is biggest issue for power and hence economy. Prius weighs some 1.3 metric tonnes! Compare to roomier Audi A2 1.2 TDI: Even on low sulphur diesel she puts out 81g/km CO2. Seen
103mpg on rush hour 28 mile run. The Prius? 45mpg in the real world and more CO2: 23g/km worse and twice the fuel consumption of A2! Plugins only part answer if power stations clean up. But USA has Coal reserves so it's unlikely to use Nuclear or Greener energies for many years.

This video is ... ( 1 year ago by blueboar1986)
This video is really bullshit. It's like saying you get infinite mpg when you drive an electric car. Also, it said nothing about the life span of the batteries. One of the reasons you dont see electric cars is because batteries dont last long enough.
This is only the ... ( 1 year ago by odessa321)
This is only the start. People have to invest time and money into the first experimental vehicles to eventually get a finished product that will truelly win support from the masses. This is how most things are developed. All I'm saying is that this vehicle and other like it are just the first steps(great first steps) in being truelly energy independent and clean.
All I have to say ... ( 1 year ago by N9QGS)
All I have to say is keep up the good work, but if your running on battery and draining tha down, every day and recharging it, you will be replacing those batteries in ~2 yeas, batteries were not meant to be comletely drained and recharged daily. you will loose capacity very quick, and I dont know if the cost is worth it, I would stick with making the Hybrid get 70 MPG more reliably then going out for the most and having a huge cost factor...

*yawn*Go rent "Who Killed The Electric Car" and then you will see that there was an all electric car until GM pulled the plug (no pun). The frustrating thing is that it was going to receive advanced technology batteries that would've more than doubled it's range (somewhere over 200 miles/charge) and these batteries were designed by an independent scientist. He sold the patent for the batteries to GM, who turned around and sold the patent to Shell oil.

yea i saw that movie, but the EV1 didn't also have a gas engine. so the EV's couldn't go on those long vacation trips, where this car can. -KEVIN-

i hear you, BUT (you knew that was coming), total number of long vacation trips for me this year: 2 ....... total number of work commutes this year: LOTS! ..... number of around town errands: plenty. You get my point. an ev1 wouldn't obviously work for vacationers or work that involves travel, but for me and everyone else who i share the morning and afternoon commute, it is close to as perfect as was available then. the people who had them loved them.

The annoying thing ... ( 6 months ago by ritschinagoers)
The annoying thing about driving on electric mode in a prius is that in surburbia the car's so quiet that the kids don't hear you approaching and they jump onto the streets without looking...but of course in a normal prius u can still switch to petrol/electric mode. if that thing runs on electricity only, driving around in supermarket carparks will be a lot of pain.
