I'm sure I've saw this ole boy live over 100 times by now, and I can say that he never plays a song the same way twice. There are not many artist out there that could pull off an entire show solo, but he sounds great every time.

I really really love Bruce Hornsby but I gotta admit, if I go to his concert, I really want his classics to sound like his classics... anyone else agree? Amazing talent, but PLEASE Bruce, I wanna hear The way it is and Mandolin rain and recognize the song.

He can perform so many different ways, he's so talented...but yes, I wanted to hear "The Way it Is" the old school way, but its hard without 'The Range' with him so I think thats when he switches it up
Many people feel ... ( 2 months ago by rwbmusic)
Many people feel that way about the tunes they love. But consider that a true artist is not a jukebox. If they choose to evolve the tune as they themselves are evolving, they are offering something creative that often times extends beyond the constraints of the studio recording. They do not always feel compelled to visit memory lane, but prefer to live in the moment. This is especially true when they play the tune over and over. They want it to be fresh, not stale. Something to think about.

Honestly, I wouldn't even want to hear a "jukebox" carbon copy at a concert, but I have heard some of his recent live recordings in which I couldnt not even recognize a classic song except for picking up a familiar lyric and maybe worse yet, cram 4 or 5 of his best songs into a little 60 second montage. "Evolve" on new songs or some cover. You dont think Billy Joel gets bored doing Piano Man? But you can still recognize it at his concerts. Just my opinion.

well he is like 53 now...not saying that 53 is really old or anything, but compared to when he was in his thirties with the range he would look a lot older
