This has to be one of the best drum vids ever made, excepting one thing... Ringo Starr? Seriously? I would be embarassed to be in a vid with Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Steve Gadd, etc...

this is only because you are too young.Ringo has been an inspiration to many of todays best known drummers like Mike Portnoy . The drummers who study this all agree on his difficult to copy style. Then remember he played for the greatest and most musical rock band ever and as he says "he played for the singer on a band with a lot of great singing", so for most musicians Ringo is the best most unselfish drummer in rock history. I would say it is unfair to compare him to jazz or big band drummers.

I'm not too young you jerk I've listened to Ringo as well and I used to like him and the Beatles but once I started taking music seriously, I realized that Ringo has very limited "musicianship", as well as the entire Beatles band. I wonder where the talent is in this band. After hearing almost their entire repertoire, I was fully unimpressed and unentertained. And don't tell me I don't know good classic music. I think that the Rolling Stones had more musicianship in one song than the Beatles.
Sorry Zao I ... ( 3 months ago by georgiebass)
Sorry Zao I apologize didn't mean to make you mad or feel bad. This is only a matter of taste and opinion. You like The Rolling Stones some others like The Beatles. Do you like Dream Theater? Since a kid I wanted to be like Gene Krupa but they would not let me bring a drum kit home, once I did and it was big trouble. Now I play the bass and my son the drums, he also plays guitar for a speedmetal band. ps. Nicely said I'm not a jerk, but an easy going type,if you new me you'd like me too.

It's cool. Jerk was the first thing I could think of, besides something like "asshole", or "motherfucker" or something, which is just uncouth. I'm easy going as well, I just take my music very seriously (maybe too seriously). Yes I like Dream Theater very much, because they write comprehensive and talent-driven songs.

ringo is very underrated, he never liked to show-off, if you listen really well to his precission and tone when drumming you will see what i mean, pay special attention to his great drum-fills, he is a great one
I did. I stated ... ( 2 months ago by zaorulesmetal)
I did. I stated that I take music a little too seriously sometimes, that's why I took a long time to listen to Ringo, and I'm just not impressed. He plays his part well in the Beatles, which is why he's famous in the first place. It's cause of the Beatles. Kind of like Travis Barker. An overrated jagoff who's in a famous, commercially appealing band, therefore the view of his talents are magnified eons beyond what they actually are.

i agree, beatles fans will always applaude him even if he just sits and crap his pants, but i think you can be better than your squareheads metal-closeminded buddies, that someone doesnt show off their abilities everytime he has the chance doesnt mean he has no talent, travis barker has had times to showcase his abilities and still ruined it, even his way of playing drumlines are simplistic mediocre, while ringo is a great drumliner, his simpleness is due to his musical genre of choice: pop rock

This may shock you, but I was talking drums a while back with one of my fellow musicians (also a drummer) and he related to me the time he went to see a Joe Morello clinic and later as he was getting Joe's autograph, Joe asked him who was his favorite drummer to listen to, and my friend says: "you"
and Joe said: "how about Ringo?"
...I think the point Joe was trying to make was that it isn't always about pure technique ...give Ringo his due
Okay, I'll give him ... ( 3 weeks ago by zaorulesmetal)
Okay, I'll give him his due... he was in a famous band and made a lot of money and had a bunch of teenage girls screaming for him (I wonder how much musical intelligence they have!). I'm not going to argue this further, I know I'm in the vast minority, and I accept that. For most, I'm completely wrong and should eat soap for putting down Ringo Starr. Maybe I will, I don't know everything.
