Rome HBO - The death of Niobe
Uploaded by: WoIfshead
Video Description:
Some scenes put together showing the death of Niobe in the last episode of the first Rome season. A VERY tragical scene with fantastic acting. I cut out the scenes of Atia and Servilia and of the murder of Julius Caesar. Brilliant series. Check out my video of the murder of Julius Caesar.

i love this, it is perfent in its PATHOS though quite sad indeed. i love her b/c she is "flawed" in roman eyes--she almost had no choice.

one moment there. you stop at around 1:54 - 1:56, when Lucius picks up the knife, you'll see that it has two bolts in it. the ancient romans never had bolts in any of their things. must be a gaffe of some sorts there...

Bruno Heller notes Niobe's suicide as her final act of love for Vorenus. She spares him the duty (for a man of his 'old Roman' nature and their class in Rome) of killing her. What's interesting later in S2 is Pullo not denying that Vorenus must have killed Niobe to Vorena the Elder when she insists that he did despite his denials to both.

If she didn't he would have. And he would be within his rights to as well. Suicide, male or female, was honourable recourse. Shame we don't do it anymore. Remember how amazed you were when you first learned of the Japenese propensity for it? Rome did it first. :)

That's interesting to me .. his expression is more one of total shock when she falls. I think the complexity of Vorenus character, revealed later in the series, suggests he was thinking of killing himself. Not her!

Indira Varma is a divine actress with such exotic beauty that suffices to be called extraordinary & outstanding! She can fit a Roman role just as easily as she can fit a historical Indian film. She just has this multi-faceted energy about her that makes her come across so passionate, intense, & fit for all her parts. Perfect beauty & amazing actress!!!

I think she is the perfect actress for historical period pieces - her facial beauty resembles a Roman statue, her aura is one of such mystery & enigma, & her acting style & appeal is very exotic in that her energy & presentation sets her apart from whomever she appears on screen with. They all pale in comparison to her. I love this scene in Rome, played to perfection by both characters. So tragic yet so profound & passionate!!!

I've often wondered how accurate this whole sublplot is. America's own heroes were not so discriminatory: "Perhaps the most tawdry of Boone's legends are the accounts of neighbors who suggested that one or more of Boone's children were actually sired by Daniel's brother while Daniel was off on extended hunting trips or a captive of the Shawnee. Boone was said to accept the interfamilial blood with good grace, even hinting that he had fathered some Cherokee children while in captivity."

Hi fingersin---I don't think he was planning to kill the child but when Nirobi made the comment "It's not the childs fault", she was hoping he would continue to be a loving father regardless.

Vorenus isnt the kind of person willing to cover anything up. If he was he would have covered up the fact that his kids were enslaved. Possibly he might not have killed her, because she cheated on him when she thought he was dead.
