I feel the reason people think there music is different is because they were more grunge and now they do more of a ballad kinda tone and people fear change so they hate there new songs and stick to the old because of fear of the unknown.

But think about it, every band goes through changes when new albums come out. If bands didn't change, they wouldn't expand. Other examples are Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. Hardcore fans didn't like their new CDs because they thought they had become too "mainstream".
