Congolese music WAS ... ( 1 year ago by HeshimaJameni)
Congolese music WAS the best in the world untill the 80s. But the new generation of their music is pathetic. How ironic they have all eliminated blowing instruments like saxaphones and trumpets which they excelled in.

yes, that's an interesting analysis. Of course, the music produced now is not as good as that produced years ago. But of course, music evolves, sometimes for the worst, sometimes for the better. Congolese music will rise again. RISE UP YOU MIGHTY NATION AND ACCOMPLISH WHAT YOU NEED TO ACCOMPLISH. peace and love, respect for Marcus Mosiah Garvey!!!!

Yes, I pray and hope that the mighty Congolese rise again. Growing up in Kenya there was no music but Congolese. Great singers, great guitarists, mind blowing saxaphone and trumpet blowers. Where is Empompo Deyesse, Nzenze, Verckys, Bokelo...? I love Franco, Dr. Nico, Verckys and Johnny Bokelo but Tabu Ley Rochereau in his heydays was unrivaled in Africa (If not the world). And for all guitar lovers check videos by Stanley Jordan.

This awareness raising song, alone, about AIDS saved thousands and thousands of lives in the Congo, then Zaire, in the 1980's and helped in a big way prevent the spread of HIV by highlighting the need to protect ourselves against this lethal illness. Franco was no ordinary musician - He was a mass educator, like no other, at least in the Congo - perhaps only surpassed by Kabasele - Res in pacem!
